While I wouldn't accuse Catholic of actively recruiting players, the fact remains that they have no area boundaries on who can attend the school. Public schools can only have kids within a certain zone relative to the school's location. Catholic can have anyone, regardless of where they live. It's a bit of a different game for them that seems a bit unfair.

There are 2 things I am sick of hearing on here. 1. Private school recruiting. 2. Myers Park having a good year. Talk about something new

I guess Catholic should turn down any kids who want to go there to play lacrosse. We recruited Banick all the way from Maryland in 7th grade. Italiano in Elementary school. Matt Sawyer was the only starter on last years team who didnt go to Holy Trinity for middle school. If by being a consistently good team is considered recruiting then Catholic is guilty.

Catholic Wanton Recruiting?
|
Prove it. It really is tiresome and detracts from the forum to see posts like this. They offer only conjecture with no facts or proof. Name just about any successful high school program and I will probably be able to show where parents either moved or had their kids transfer.(AK,CCDS,Providence). I won't go as far as to say these moves were based solely on lacrosse, so lets just let families decide what's best for the kids, and if a lacrosse program benefits then so be it. MP and NM have fantastic IB programs where students can apply from outside the school's geographical boundarries Who knows what the future holds for these schools with great academics and great lacrosse. In addition, I don't believe that these student's would have to sit out a year as a transfer.

Its great to see that Catholic's wanton recruiting of players hasn't kept Myers Park from being recognized as a strong lacrosse program with the #4 ranking in the South.

It wasn't a try at Catholic; it was a direct hit. And it wasn't uneducated. Any of us who support public school programs know that they try their best to keep lacrosse a "privileged" sport. Lacrosse will never truly grow strong here in other schools if Catholic continues to recruit in the wanton way that they do now.

Can't recruit. Can't offer athletic scholarships and does not have a post grad year available. Where they differ from the big Charlotte privates is that they do allow a kid to re-class in high school which is completely within the rules of the NCISAA. The school costs close to $40,000 a year and they will offer financial aide where a family qualifies. They are very, very good at improving a kid's academic performance. About 15% of their class every year goes to an Ivy League type school. 10 of 53 graduates in 2009 went Division I on scholarship. Their lacrosse program is building. Bethea just graduated from Army Prep and will be a freshman at Army, Baugh starts for Presbyterian. Jeff Miles is a great coach and the Director of Student Life and their Assistant Head Master who is an Assistant Coach was a starter for Johns Hopkins.

No PGs at Christ
|
While boys can reclass at Christ, there are is no PG program. Reclassing is based on age so if a kid was held back in elementary school, they likely will not be able to reclass. Bethea and Walters did reclass however, most do not. Also there are no scholarships. Most kids receive some form of financial aid based on family need because it is expensive. And as we all know, most private schools do the same thing.

Can recruit. They have a PG ability for athletics and can bring in kids from all over, hence, signing them to scholarships. Taylor Bethea from Cary, NC, the big attackman from Holly Springs and many others have done this. They play in the private school league, not the public. Nice try on slamming Catholic though...It fell a bit uneducated and short.

I love how you say he "signed" with Christ School. Last I checked, that's not a college or professional team. But there may be a Freudian slip there because that's how some of these privates operate (see: Catholic, Charlotte).
